What is a Handheld scanner and what are its uses?

A handheld scanner is an electronic device that is used for scanning things such as documents, etc., and convert the same in a digital format. The same can be digitally stored, edited, transferred, and emailed within the digital space. The applications of this equipment are limitless.

It works by capturing the barcodes. There are specific reading devices that are needed to receive the information behind the codes so that data processing can be done. The handheld scanner reads the barcodes and detects the code pattern as well as it is equipped with red or infrared light.

The handheld 3D has the technology of reading unit and downstream decoding unit as well. The decoding unit is linked to the reading unit of all types of devices. Handheld laser scanner finds its application in the retail, logistics, and many other types of industries.

Laser scanner

Laser scanning is a method to collect data from objects and products. Laser scanners collect information in the form of 3D coordinates. Laser scanning is not a new term, rather the technology dates back to the 1960s. Initially, the equipment was basic that had cameras, projectors, and lights. Then came LiDAR systems, the high-quality scanners that used laser beams to collect data.

Modern Handheld laser scanner collect detailed data and are equipped with cloud processing software. 3D laser scans use laser beams, advanced sensors, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), Inertial Measurement Units (IMU), and photodetectors. The laser scanners calculate accurate coordinates of the product.

Handheld 3d scanner

Handheld 3d scanners have made the task of 3D scanning much accessible than it was before. Now, there is no need to have bulky stationary units. You can perform 3D scanning without needing technicians and operators. Many industries have now started putting this gadget to new types of uses. There is immense technological development in this type of equipment.

Uses of handheld scanners

These are the most common uses of handheld scanners:

Image Scanning: Handheld image scanners record any document, letters, invoices, blueprints, and plans. Just place the device face down on the document and move the scanner on the page.

OCR Scanners: Many scanners use optical character recognition or OCR technology. OCR scanners search the image file and generate output as a text file or electronic document.

Business Cards: Business card scanners can collect the contact information of the customers quickly and easily. It also runs on the OCR scanning technology.

Receipts and Invoices: Handheld scanners are very useful for capturing receipts and invoices for employees at the store. There is no need to keep the small slips of paper with you anymore as you can just scan the receipt or bill and save the same on the computer.
